The Tribute To Robert Shaw Web Page

V 2.0.4

There are lots of great actors who never reach huge stardom. The Leonardo
DiCaprio's of the world are the ones we read about, but it's often the
character actors stealing the scenes whenever they're involved. Today we
have a very talented actor named Gary Oldman. In just three films he went
from playing Lee Harvey Oswald (JFK) to a starring role as Beethoven
(Immortal Beloved) to a psycho drug dealing pimp (True Romance) All of these performances he performs with perfect accuracy. Stealing the scene from all the other actors involved. He's truely one of the most gifted actors of the 90's.

In 1966, after the realease of "A Man For All Seasons," for which he got
an oscar nomination, Robert Shaw told a reporter, "I once asked Otto Preminger if it was possible for someone to be a character actor and a star. He said 'No.' I'd like to prove him wrong."
I don't know if Robert Shaw believed he ever accomplished that, since the
movies he starred in after his success in Jaws were not the huge mega super hits that he desired. But I do think that Otto Preminger was wrong. I
believe that Robert Shaw was a star. A star that shined brighter than most.

For you see,...imagine if you will that not only is Gary Oldman appearing
in film after film and getting great reviews for his work, but at the same
time he is turning out critically acclaimed fictional novels and plays at the rate of our contemporary novelists, AND, while doing that, also
starring in successful television series, and stage Productions that have
him shareing the bill with people like Richard Harris, John Gielgud, Peter O'Toole, and Alec Guinness.
Names that don't have as much impact today. But believe me,
in the 1960's when it came to british stage work,...these men were Kings.
Oh yea, and throw in a television talk show as well.

They say James Brown is the hardest working man in show business. Maybe,
now,...but not when Robert Shaw was alive. I made this page when i found
out from going online that, with the exception of the movie jaws,...the
world has really forgotten that there was more to this man than just the
crusty old sea character, Quint. I have wavs, pics, a bio, links, and
hopefully I'll amuse you along the way. Well let's get going,...
